Market Hours: Pre-Market, Regular & After-Hours
The market never truly sleeps — but the best action happens at specific times.
Three sessions, three different beasts.
The regular session runs 9:30 AM – 4:00 PM ET — this is when most volume and price action happens. Pre-market trading starts as early as 4:00 AM ET and runs until 9:30 AM. After-hours trading runs 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM ET. Both extended sessions have thin volume, wide spreads, and exaggerated moves. Momentum traders use pre-market to find their targets — and the open is when they strike.
