End-of-Day Review

Your journal is your coach

Your journal is your coach.

After the close, review every trade taken and every trade not taken that should have been. Over weeks, patterns emerge: your highest-probability setup, the time of day you perform best, the behaviors that consistently precede your losses. Without deliberate review, experience does not compound into skill — it just repeats. The journal is where trading lessons actually get learned. The trade itself is just the data point.

3 things to know

📓

Traders who maintain detailed journals improve their win rate measurably faster than those who rely on memory alone.

🔍

Reviewing missed trades (setups you saw but did not take) is as important as reviewing trades you took — both reveal behavioral patterns.

📈

R-multiple tracking over 100+ trades is the most objective measure of whether your edge is real — positive average R means you have an edge.

Practice

Post-Close Review Protocol

1

Export Trade Log from Broker

Pull the day's trade log from your broker platform. Every fill, every partial, every stop. This is your raw data.

2

Pull Charts for Each Trade

For each trade, open the 1-minute chart. Mark your entry and exit prices with horizontal lines. See the trade visually.

3

Rules Check: Did I Follow My Plan?

For each trade, answer yes or no: Did I follow my entry rules? Did I honor my stop? Grade the decision, not the outcome.

4

Write Two Sentences Per Trade

One sentence on what went well. One sentence on what to do differently. Specificity matters — "I was patient" is not as useful as "I waited for the first candle to close."

5

Update Journal Spreadsheet Metrics

Log: date, ticker, setup type, R-multiple, grade, rule compliance. After 30 trades, patterns in your data will become visible.

Did you know?

"I kept a trading journal for 5 years before I became consistently profitable. The journal is where the learning actually happens — not in the trade itself." — Mark Minervini, US Investing Champion.
